Amir specializes in creating local content that competes with global standards.
He started his career making documentaries for international clients while assisting acclaimed filmmaker Kabir Khan.
The first film he edited ‘Taliban Years and Beyond’ went on to grab eyeballs and acclaim world over (Cork Film festival, 2002, Ireland; Mumbai International Film Festival, 2004) and was telecast on the Discovery Channel. Quickly followed by another award winner – ‘Titanic Sinks in Kabul’ (International Sasa Award 2003, Italy; V FICA Film festival, Brazil – 2003, FIKE 2003 – Evora International Short Film Festival, Portugal)
Simultaneously, he also gained recognition as a DOP with ‘Lunch on the Run’ (Palm Beach International Film Festival in Florida) among other international films. He was also in the core creation, direction and content team for ‘Jihad-The Sword of Islam’ (an international film shot in six countries), the Emmy award nominated ‘The Journalist and the Jihadi’ (narrated by Christian Amanpour) and Cyber Diaspora (telecast on Discovery).
In 2005, he went to Kabul to work in the direction team of the award winning and critically acclaimed Yash Raj film ‘Kabul Express’
In 2007, Amir was heading the Mumbai facility of the premiere production house ‘Moving Picture Company’. Here, he helped conceptualize and set up more than 17 original television shows for various leading channels like Sony, Zee, Star Gold, SET Max, Zoom, Viacom 18 and Sahara. The show formats ranged from Docudramas, Reality, Fiction, Non-fiction, Comedy, Bollywood and Lifestyle.
As of today, Amir has over 16 years of experience in conceptualizing, setting up and delivering top quality film, television and web products for international clients as well as Indian broadcast houses.
After acquiring degrees in Literature and Video production, she came to Mumbai in 2001, to work in the core content and direction team of acclaimed filmmaker Kabir Khan while working for the premier production house “Moving Picture Company.
During this stint, she directed many successful factual entertainment products - from international documentaries, to investigative docudramas, to travel and lifestyle shows, biographical shows and tourism advertisements.
Her documentary credits include high profile work for some of the best Indian and international clients – Tele Productions International USA, World Bank, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Indira Gandhi memorial Trust, HIMAAL Association-to name a few.
This was followed by a yearlong stint in Yash Raj where she worked as the first assistant director in the award winning feature film ‘Kabul Express’
In 2006, she was co-heading the Mumbai division of ‘Moving Picture Company’ as the Chief Creative Director. She helped design, develop and create more than 20 successful original non-fiction shows for leading channels like Sony, Zee, Viacom 18, Zoom, Star Gold, SET Max and Sahara. The show formats ranged from Reality, Docudramas, Factual Entertainment, Lifestyle, Bollywood and Humor.
But everyone said her best work was still ahead of her. So, she co-founded Blue Magic Films where she has been consistently creating successful, award winning original formats for the last 7 years. She conceives, writes, directs and creates projects she is most passionate about, and is fuelled by originality and perfection.
